If you don’t accept your own Death are you even loving yourself?
Let’s stop pretending. The "self-love" being sold to you by the wellness industry sometimes fees like nothing more than a high-end distraction. Good instincts! You’re right! Now, let’s ask your suspicions what it is you are trying to perfume/bathbomb/massage/orgasm away.
Now listen, I’m with you. I love indulgent body-focused rituals as much as the next bruja. But soothing practices can turn into practices of avoidance when we are distracting or shielding ourselves from the truth of our shadows.
Allow me to present an alternative. Imagine feeling a love for yourself that doesn’t whisper sweet nothings; it roars.
Witch Wisdom: True self-love can be Death Magic in its most practical form. It is a strong invocation of acceptance and accelerates the manifestation of our next step forward.
Ok, that sounds like fancy word soup even to me. So let’s apply this principle practically:
When you unflinchingly accept that your body is a sacred temple with a strict expiration date, your choices suddenly carry teeth.
In this example, true self-love doesn’t allow you to hang onto shame or critical judgment or hatred about your body as casually as we have all been trained to do. Can you soothe yourself against the regrets you fear you may have upon dying? Can you forgive yourself for thinking negatively about your body more than you do positively? There’s the teeth.
Choosing yourself, enforcing a boundary, or reclaiming your right to your desires isn't a "nice-to-have" luxury. It is a radical act that demonstrates the value of your time and complete understanding that you do not have it indefinitely.
The release and relaxation your nervous system may be craving is hearing you say out loud and demonstrating, "I am here now, and I am worth the fight".
I feel a dance song coming on...
Let’s dance together
- Self-love Dance Party: On February 18th
- Zoom: Register here.
- You can expect fun tunes, light sharing and ritual. I’ll be the DJ and the Priestess. You bring your wonderful self. Dress however you’d like. (I think I'll be letting my inner Dominatriz out with something HOT!) We are going to step into celebrating what we most love about ourselves. It can be hard and even uncomfortable. Moving that discomfort out our bodies together can make it easier!
With teeth and fierce love,
Mel, The Body Witch
