Simple Sigils for Joy
Step 1: Somatic Unloading (The Tantrum)
- Find a space where you can be unedited.
- Close your eyes and locate the "bracing" in your body—is it a tight chest, clenched jaw, or frozen shoulders?
- Let your body express the frustration of being tired. Shake your hands, stomp your feet, or let out a vocal sigh. Honor the child within by letting the expression be unedited, ugly and primal.
Step 2: Extracting the Memory of Freedom
- Once you feel complete as possible with your catharsis, spend some time soothing yourself. Still your body and cross both hands over your heart center.
- Bring to mind a raw, unedited image of absolute freedom from your past or childhood. It is critical you don’t question the imagery; this is your magic flowing forth.
- Sit with this memory until a spontaneous physical smile spreads into your belly. Feel the physiological reality of that lightness.
Step 3: Drawing the Sigil
- Take a blank piece of paper and a marker (or a piece of sidewalk chalk if you have it).
- Without planning, thinking, or over-analyzing, let your hand draw a simple, raw geometric symbol or line design that represents that feeling of unedited freedom. Simple is very useful here. Think circles, triangles, lines...don’t pressure yourself for visual detail. Just what FEELS right.
- This is your Sigil for Joy—a visual symbol your physical eyes see, but your somatic body recognizes instantly as a permission slip to soften.
Step 4: Activating the Anchor
- Place your hand over the drawn sigil.
- Take 3 deep, conscious breaths. Inhale delight/joy/softening/safety, exhale the performance.
- Place this sigil somewhere your eyes will hit it automatically when you are working or spinning—on your computer monitor, your bathroom mirror, or your nightstand, carry it around with you on a post. You can use it anywhere and even visualize the symbol all over your own every field.
Integration
The next time you see your sigil during a chaotic day, you don't need to do anything elaborate.
Simply look at the symbol, take one conscious breath, and let your body (not just your mind) remember the flexibility and safety it felt during this practice.
You are the source of everything you desire. You get to be heavy, and you get to be sovereignly playful at the same exact time.
